易武薄荷塘青饼 Keyixing BOHETANG YIWU Raw Pu'er

Year: 2015 Autumn
Origin: Bohetang, Yiwu, Yunnan.
Altitude: 1800m
Tree age: 古树 ancient tree.
Storage: Taiwan Natural Storage

Bohetang is found in Mansa Tea Mountain, one of the Old Six Tea Mountains found in Yunnan, which is also home to the Yao ethnic minority.

The environment here is very picturesque, with mountains, streams, ravines and clear ponds with Chinese peppermint growing on the banks. These ponds give Bohetang its name, which translates to "Peppermint Pond."

The tea trees in this area are old, from 100-200+ years old. Trees are fed from clear mountain springs.

The brewed tea is a rich golden yellow. The tea is mellow, refreshing and smooth. The tea body is thick. The tea has mild bitterness that is well-balanced, and has a hint of cooling menthol (mint). The huigan (aftertaste or returning sweet) is strong, long-lasting and satisfying.

Keyixing Tea Factory 可以興 was founded in 1926, and was the first factory to introduce the compressed tea brick shape for storage.

Speechless!

This is probably one of my favorite puerh that I've tasted! I bought the sampler on a whim, and wow it just blew me away. Right off the bag, the tea smelled very sweet/malty. Leaves looks beautiful - I had a lovely sheen/shine to it. And the compression just right. I was able to separate it easily.

I brewed it gongfu style with benshan luni pot, did not rinse the leaves, and the first sip was absolutely heavenly. SWEET BOMB! I never experienced sweetness this pronounced on a puerh before. And the huigan (the "returning" sweetness after the tea is swallowed) was even stronger. I was laughing and smiling as I kept drinking and brewing because I was just lost for words. There is a slight bitterness, but it's a very pleasant bitterness intermingling with the sugary sweetness. Finally, the cha qi came in with its gentle but assured presence. After my 2nd cup, I start to feel my face, head, and shoulder washed with a gentle warmtness....akin to sunbathing in a nice spring sun. The whole experience of drinking this tea I will never forget. Treat yourself & try this puerh!
