This teapot is solid silver with gold plated details (see photos - around spout and on staples), and the handle is a piece of bamboo.
A functional piece of art and future heirloom, this teapot was handmade by the master Hong JinHong 洪金鸿。Master Hong oxidized this surface of this teapot by bathing it in fire (see Photos of the process below). He calls this series of silver teapots his "meteorite series" because of the special texture, colour and overall wabi sabi appearance of these teapots. Master Hong's work is limited to only a few teapots a year.
The teapots are made using National Standard Certified 9999 Silver or 99.99% pure (see photo below showing the government issued certificate of silver purity which is included). After the silversmith has melted and shaped the teapot, the silver is guaranteed to be not less than 99.9% pure silver. 999 is the highest market standard for a silver teapot.
Taste is subjective, but we have found silver teapots bring out a softer, smoother quality in the tea that is brewed.
Although we have tested the lid fit and pour and found both to be excellent, there may be slight leaking from the edges of the lid depending on how the teapot is handled and as a result of each teapot being handmade. We will not accept returns for this reason.
