Jiangdouhong is a glaze first developed during the Kangxi Period of the Qing Dynasty. The glaze is named jiangdouhong, jiangdou "cowpea" for its texture and hong "red." The studio follows the original recipe and traditional method for applying the glaze, chuiyou 吹釉 "blowing glaze."
Jingdouhong is a difficult glaze to fire properly as its success depends on balancing the amount of CuO in the glaze, firing environment (the glaze is fired in a reduction environment, but with a period where it is exposed to an environment with slightly higher levels of oxygen), and temperature (around 1260C).
This teacup is handmade of fine Jingdezhen porcelain by Shan Kiln in Jingdezhen.
Shan Kiln is famous for their fanggu quality ruyao, however Lee Shanming got his start in Jingdezhen porcelain before developing his ruyao, and was known for his fanggu red glazed porcelain. You can read more about Lee Shanming and his studio here.
