These cups were made following Ming era techniques and recipes for the porcelain body, pigment and glaze. The style itself is also from the Ming period. This kind of porcelain is known as "fanggu" porcelain because it aims to revive and reproduce an ancient style of porcelain. Fanggu technique is more costly and difficult to execute properly than modern styles of porcelain. Since each cup is handmade and hand painted there is a slight variation in the painting, although each one follows the same pattern.

The cup is handmade of fine thin Jingdezhen porcelain and hand painted using a very old design and formulas for the pigment and glaze.

a welcome addition to my collection!

This tea cup fulfills a longstanding wish for a fine porcelain vessel able to receive the contents of a 100/120 ml tea pot. My preference is for classic forms and decorations, so I am very grateful to the artisans who keep the spirit of traditional Chinese porcelain and YiXing ware alive! The "aquatic scene" depicted here has always been a favourite: the rendering is confident and happy, and soft-edged delineation balances a bold tone of cobalt blue. It is a weighty "hand-pressing-cup" with a smooth, round, full lip. And a welcome addition to my collection!
