This was handmade by Jingdezhen Master Lee ShanMing. He has devoted himself to ru kiln products for over 15 years. His signature is on the bottom of the pot, it says "Shan" 善. "Shan" is the middle character of the artist's name, it means kindness.
This ancient pottery technique known as Ru Kiln (Ruyao) originated during the Song dynasty.
Red ru kiln is very difficult and time-consuming to make and has by far the highest scrap-rate for ruyao. Because each piece is completely handmade and fired manually under traditional methods, the red color in different batches might be slightly different. Each gaiwan is a unique piece.
