This tea pitcher is handmade of fine Jingdezhen porcelain, but it is also finished with a special dark red glaze known as Jihong 霁红. Jihong glazed porcelain is one form of traditional Jingdezhen ceramic. The glaze is very difficult to fire properly and has a very high scrap rate when producing compared to other glazes. The dark red glaze is strongly affected by temperature and flame during firing. The conditions must be exactly right to produce the signature rich and deep dark red glaze found in true Jihong porcelain.
The handle of the pitcher is with a style of chi dragon(螭龙)。“螭”is an ancient mythical animal in China, it represents good luck, prosperity and the love between couples.
