This teapot is handmade and painted and was fired in a traditional wood kiln.
This is a fanggu porcelain teapot, using not only ancient style and materials, but also the traditional wood fired kiln that requires great skill to operate. Firing porcelain using wood instead of gas or electricity gives the porcelain a special texture. However, the process requires great skill as temperature control is much more difficult. The scrap-rate for wood fired porcelain is much higher. Unlike our wood fired Yixing and Nixing Teapots, these porcelain teapots are sheltered from the wood ash in the traditional way.
The blue pigment (Qinghua 青花) is hand painted onto the porcelain first, and then a glaze is applied. The teapot is then fired at a high temperature in a traditional wood kiln.
